Aid and Development

Samara has worked in international aid and development since 2006 supporting community-based recovery and development programs, including microfinance, community security and arms control, gender-based-violence prevention and response, civic engagement in democratic processes, gender equality and women's empowerment, and disarmament, demobilization and reintegration, policing.

She has worked in a variety of countries for both international NGOs and the United Nations, including Zambia, Aceh/Indonesia, the Sudan, the Republic of South Sudan, Libya, Afghanistan, Nepal, Colombia, and Croatia.  Samara has contributed to the development of policies and programming, including co-leading global studies and supporting international training and capacity development programs.  She has also supported yoga communities for aid and development practitioners during many of her postings abroad, offering weekly classes and workshops.

One of Samara's favorite projects in the Sudan involved a collaboration with Sonke Gender Justice in South Africa, and focused on supporting men and women to Break the Silence and take action to end Gender Based Violence in their communities
